Haredi singer and cantor Avishai Levi killed in road accident in Jerusalem

Avishai Levi, a 46-year-old Haredi singer and cantor from Har Shmuel, was killed on Friday in a road accident in Jerusalem. The accident occurred on Adonyahu HaKohen Street when he was crushed by a pole near his car door. MDA paramedics evacuated him to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in critical condition, where his death was determined. Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Avishai Levi, a 46-year-old Haredi singer and cantor from Har Shmuel, was killed on Friday in a road accident in Jerusalem. The accident occurred on Adonyahu HaKohen Street, near the Allenby Terminal junction, while he was working as a driver, mainly on Fridays. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, Levi got out of his car to retrieve suitcases from the bumper, noticed the car rolling backward, and ran toward the door to stop it, when he was crushed by the pole next to the door. MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment and evacuated him to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in critical condition with head and chest injuries, while performing resuscitation. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, medical teams had to determine his death. In his youth, Avishai Levi was crowned the "wonder child" of Mizrahi music, performed in Israel and around the world, and appeared on many programs. The singer used to host Shabbat bar mitzvahs, britot, weddings, Torah scroll dedications, and hilulot. In a few months, he was expected to marry off his daughter. A medic from MDA's motorcycle unit, Eli Raymond, said: "We saw the injured man trapped, unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, with very severe injuries to his body. During the rescue operations, we provided life-saving medical treatment that included prolonged resuscitation and evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition, fighting for his life." The police reported that the accident was a single-vehicle accident, and that traffic accident investigators from the Jerusalem District arrived at the scene and opened an investigation into the circumstances.
