Hamas welcomes calls to end wars in Gaza and the region

Hamas on Thursday welcomed statements by Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei about the need to stop wars in the region, foremost the wars on Gaza and Lebanon. Basem Naim, head of Hamas's Arab and Islamic Relations Office, said stopping wars serves the supreme interest of the region's peoples and their future, adding that their continuation serves Israeli occupation schemes to dismantle the region and destabilize it. This came after Rezaei was appointed last Sunday to succeed Mohammad Baqer Zol-Qadr.

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Thursday welcomed statements by Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, in which he called for the need to stop the ongoing wars in the region, foremost the war on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. Basem Naim, head of Hamas's Arab and Islamic Relations Office, said that stopping wars represents the supreme interest of the region's peoples and their future, adding that the continuation of wars only serves the schemes of the Israeli occupation aimed at dismantling the region, destabilizing it, and draining its resources. This welcome came after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian appointed Mohsen Rezaei last Sunday as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, succeeding Mohammad Baqer Zol-Qadr, who resigned from his post, according to an official in the Iranian presidency's media affairs. In his first public statement after his appointment, Rezaei said that the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened unless the United States changes its behavior and accepts Iran's conditions. The former commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard also demanded that the United States end the war and release frozen Iranian funds, considering that Washington represents a 'destabilizing factor' and has endangered the entire region through what he described as an 'illegal war on Iran'.
