The plan was foiled on October 1, 2025, six days before the date, when security forces in Berlin raided a building courtyard in the Moabit district and seized an automatic assault rifle, eight pistols, and over 600 rounds of ammunition. One suspect filmed a claim-of-responsibility video in Vienna in August 2025, masked, armed, and waving a Hamas flag. German intelligence noted that the case indicates a strategic shift in Hamas activity in Europe: a transition from fundraising and propaganda to establishing operational cells for carrying out terrorist attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets.
