Half a ton of cannabis seized in villa: 'The guesthouse business failed due to the war - so he set up a lab instead'
An indictment was filed against David Khundishvili, 57, from Yavne, after a cannabis lab was discovered in a villa he rented in the Moshavat Migdal. About 423 kg of cannabis, growing equipment, and cash were found. Khundishvili took full responsibility, and his attorney argued he set up the lab after his guesthouse business collapsed due to the war.
At the end of the week, an indictment was filed at the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil District Court against David Khundishvili, 57, from Yavne, for drug cultivation and possession. According to the indictment, during a raid by Northern District police on a villa he rented in Moshavat Migdal, a cannabis lab was seized containing about 423 kilograms of the drug. Additionally, documents, thousands of shekels in cash, and extensive equipment used for drug cultivation were seized, including fans, blowers, timers, water pumps, irrigation systems, and thermometers. Khundishvili remains in custody, and at a further hearing held today (Tuesday), Judge Hanna Sabag ordered the preparation of a detention report regarding him. According to the indictment, Khundishvili illegally connected the villa to the power grid, bypassing the electricity meter with a temporary cable, thereby stealing electricity worth about 159,000 shekels. The Northern District Prosecutor's Office requested his detention until the end of legal proceedings. His attorney, Adv. Yaron Forer, told Walla that his client "took full responsibility for his actions." According to him, this is a person with no criminal record suffering from a complex medical condition, and therefore he intends to work for his release as soon as possible. In court, he added that Khundishvili had set up a guesthouse complex on the site, but due to the war and economic difficulties, the business failed, and "unfortunately, he decided to set up a lab." The Northern District Police stated: "The Israel Police will continue to use all means at its disposal in the fight against the drug plague, with an emphasis on locating dealers and distributors. This criminal activity causes severe harm to many young people who fall into a cycle of use, addiction, and deterioration into crime."
