Haifa Renewal Revolution: Four Towers and Hundreds of Apartments for Medical Staff and Students

The Haifa local committee recommended depositing an urban renewal plan in Bat Galim: demolishing eight housing buildings from the 1950s and constructing four towers with about 800 housing units, along with commercial space, public buildings, and doubling the school area. The plan aims to provide apartments for medical staff and students.

The Haifa Municipality's local planning and construction committee recommended at its weekly meeting to deposit a plan for urban renewal in the compound at 15-23 HaAliya HaShniya Street in the Bat Galim neighborhood. The plan, spanning between HaAliya HaShniya Street, Aliyat HaNoar Street, and Heyl HaYam Street, is promoted by the Haifa Municipality with the aim of establishing a new residential compound supporting medicine and academia. According to the announcement, the plan proposes demolishing eight four-story housing buildings from the 1950s, containing 286 housing units, and replacing them with four residential towers of about 34 stories, with about 800 housing units. The plan includes about 5,000 square meters for commerce and about 1,500 square meters for public buildings, as well as doubling the area of the 'HaAliya' school from 3 dunams to about 6 dunams. The main goal is to create small apartments for the medical staff of Rambam Hospital and for students of the Technion's medical school. Mayor Yona Yahav, his deputy Sarit Golan, CEO David Luria, and head of the administration Orna Mor expressed support for the plan, which emphasizes the connection between physical renewal and the needs of academia and medicine. The plan will be brought for discussion to the district committee.
