According to The Washington Post, US allies increasingly fear that President Donald Trump cannot effectively conduct diplomatic negotiations with Iran. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain express dissatisfaction with the US administration's actions amid a months-long conflict and ongoing missile and drone attacks by Iran and its affiliated groups. Some countries have begun discussing the advisability of further hosting large US military bases. One Gulf representative, speaking anonymously, said that Trump started this war, and regional allies have to bear the consequences. Discontent with Washington has reached its highest level since the start of joint Israeli-US strikes on Iran in February. At the same time, Gulf states still view Washington as a key security partner and major arms supplier. Qatar and Bahrain host significant US military bases. Growing discontent is prompting some states to seek alternative cooperation options, but analysts believe this is unlikely to lead to a serious shift in the regional balance of power in the near term. A White House representative said Trump maintains close ties with all regional allies, and Iran's actions have led to its international isolation.
