Grandma cooked drugs: 101-year-old Nigerian suspected of marijuana trafficking

Agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Esther Ogunmbo, 101, on suspicion of cannabis trafficking in the town of Ilisan, Ogun State. She was caught with 90 grams of the drug, admitted to selling small quantities, and said she turned to trafficking after a fire destroyed her grocery store. Her daughter, who supplied her with the drug, was later arrested.

Agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Esther Ogunmbo, a 101-year-old great-grandmother, on suspicion of cannabis trafficking in the town of Ilisan, Ogun State. The arrest took place in mid-August, when the elderly woman was found in possession of 90 grams of "skunk" (a strain of cannabis). During questioning, Ogunmbo admitted to selling the illegal substance in small quantities. The elderly woman shared the background that led her to the act, saying she turned to drug trafficking after a fire destroyed her grocery store. Additionally, she revealed during the investigation that her daughter, who lives in Lagos, would supply her with cannabis regularly every four days. Following this development, the NDLEA chairman, Brigadier General (ret.) Mohammed Buba Marwa, ordered Ogunmbo's release on bail and her referral to counseling due to her advanced age. Meanwhile, the agency announced that the elderly woman's daughter was located and subsequently arrested by law enforcement.
