The Governor Scholarship program, one of Israel's largest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), is expanding its operations and will operate for the first time at Tel-Hai University and the Ruppin Academic Center. This move comes against the backdrop of challenges facing the northern region in recent years, including security tensions and damage to the local economy. With the addition of Tel-Hai University, which recently received university recognition, and the Ruppin Academic Center, the number of public academic institutions collaborating with the program will stand at 14. Established 17 years ago, the program is aimed at young people who are first-generation higher education students from challenging socio-economic backgrounds. It provides students studying engineering, computer science, and medicine with a package that includes full tuition coverage, monthly living expenses, personal guidance, mentoring, and training for integration into the job market. According to program data, over 95% of participants successfully complete their studies, and today more than 1,000 program graduates work in high-tech companies and the healthcare system in Israel. Ohad Gross, CEO of the Governor Program, stated: "The expansion to the north is not only geographical but strategic. Developing human capital through quality higher education is one of the most important growth engines of Israeli society."
