Got the green light: Robotaxi manufacturers storm Las Vegas

The Nevada Transportation Authority has approved Tesla, Uber, and Waymo to operate robotaxis in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas. The companies can deploy up to 7,000 autonomous vehicles over the next 12 months. Tesla received approval for 5,000 vehicles, while Waymo and Uber each got 1,000. Tesla's stock rose 5.1%.

The Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA) has approved Tesla, Uber, and Waymo to offer robotaxi services in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas and has a population of 2.4 million. The companies can deploy up to 7,000 autonomous vehicles over the next 12 months. Tesla received approval to deploy up to 5,000 vehicles, while Alphabet's Waymo and Uber can each deploy 1,000 vehicles. Uber operates in Las Vegas in partnership with Motional and Zoox. Zoox received approval to offer paid rides earlier in August. Tesla's stock rose 5.1% in trading on Wall Street yesterday, Alphabet gained 1.2%, and Uber rose 0.3%. However, the companies are not expected to deploy the maximum number. Tesla's chief engineer noted that the company would be satisfied if it reaches 2,500 vehicles per year. Tesla currently operates 232 robotaxis, far behind Waymo with 3,871.
