Google prepares major update to Discover
Google is changing how the Discover feed works, allowing users to directly influence recommendations using AI. Through a dialogue with artificial intelligence, users can explain which topics and sources to show more often. The favorite sources feature is also being expanded, and publishers will be able to place a button for adding to preferences. Google News will feature daily audio summaries.
Google is preparing a major update to the Discover feed that will give users the ability to directly influence recommendations. Instead of relying solely on algorithms that analyze search queries and activity, users will be able to open a dialogue with AI through the publication menu and explain in plain words what content interests them. For example, they can ask to show materials on a specific topic more often or prioritize certain websites. The instructions received will be saved and considered when forming the feed, and can be adjusted with a new request if needed. Additionally, Google is expanding the favorite sources feature, allowing users to designate media outlets whose publications they want to prioritize. For news sites, an additional tool will appear: publishers can place a button that lets readers add the resource to their preferred Google sources directly from the publication's page. In parallel, Google is developing personalization for Google News: in the Android app, users will be able to receive daily audio summaries tailored to their chosen topics. Thus, Google is gradually moving away from a model where user interests are determined solely by algorithms and transitioning to more direct interaction.
