Goodbye to boxed meals: The IDF's strict kosher reform is underway

The IDF is launching a significant kosher reform: ceasing the supply of food in sealed boxed meals for Haredi soldiers, and replacing them with fresh and varied meals under strict kosher supervision that will be served as part of the regular dining in bases. The move, led by the Chief of Staff's advisor on Haredi affairs, the Logistics and Technology Directorate, and the Military Rabbinate, includes establishing a new department for halachic supervision.

The reform was formulated after a staff work process that included examining the existing response and surfacing gaps from soldiers and commanders. The Chief of Staff's advisor stated that the responsibility is to provide the Haredi soldier with conditions that will allow him to serve well, with respect, and over time.
