Givati soldiers punished to 30 days in military prison after mass walkout at Sde Teiman base

Fourteen soldiers from the Givati Brigade's Tzabar Battalion were sentenced on Friday to 30 days in military prison and removed from combat service for leading a mass walkout at the Sde Teiman military base on Thursday. The walkout was reportedly triggered by commanders destroying memorial insignias displayed in the battalion's companies. The battalion commander insisted on removing the insignias despite opposition from soldiers. One soldier told Walla that a commander used a five-kilogram hammer to destroy an insignia. Videos of the destruction prompted the insubordination, according to soldiers' parents. About 80 other soldiers who participated have returned to the base and will undergo an educational process to strengthen discipline. The Givati Brigade had recently returned from prolonged combat in southern Lebanon, where it captured the Beaufort Ridge and Bint Jbeil. The troops are preparing for redeployment to the Yellow Line in Gaza.
