He left the stage after less than a minute, escorted by police, after only managing to say "Good night and happy anti-crime." The event was one of more than 70 similar events across New York City to strengthen the bond between police and community, but unlike other places, the atmosphere in Staten Island was hostile. Mammadani, known for his love of the spotlight and long speeches, appeared to smile a forced smile as he left the venue.
