George R.R. Martin is writing a fourth novella in the Dunk and Egg series, which serves as the basis for HBO's spin-off 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'. Series creator Ira Parker aims to continue for additional seasons, and Martin has provided new material for the second season. So far, Martin has published three novellas featuring the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Egg. The first season adapted 'The Hedge Knight', the second will be based on 'The Sworn Sword', and the third is planned to adapt 'The Mystery Knight'. Parker expressed a desire to continue to a fourth and even fifth season, noting that the new novella takes place in a very cool location. The planned fifth story will be the last in which Egg is still a child, thus serving as a natural stopping point. Parker hopes to wait for actor Dexter Sol Ansell to grow up and resume the series with the same cast, without recasting Egg. In later seasons, they could delve deeper into the political intrigues of King's Landing and Summerhall. Martin has provided the team with unpublished material that will be incorporated into the second season. Filming for the second season proved complex due to drought and a severe storm in Gran Canaria, which caused flooding and halted production. However, the air date has not changed, and the series is expected to return in the first half of 2027 with six episodes.
