17 immigrants of Syrian origin, three families from the Aleppo Jewish community in New York, landed in Israel this morning and made aliyah together as a family nucleus. The immigrants, including 11 children, will settle in Ra'anana. Additional families from the community are expected to arrive next week. Minister of Aliyah and Integration, Ofir Sofer, welcomed the aliyah and called it "a moving and significant event" reflecting a Zionist awakening among established and well-rooted Jewish communities. The aliyah joins another group of immigrants, members of the Persian Jewish community from New York, who landed in Israel last week and also chose to establish their home in Ra'anana.
