Starting September 15, Israeli pharmacies will begin selling Foundayo weight loss pills from Eli Lilly. Israel will become the fourth country in the world after the US, UK, and UAE where this drug will be available. The main advantage of the new product is its ease of use: the pill needs to be taken only once a day and does not require refrigeration, unlike injectable alternatives. The cost of a monthly course varies from 692 to 1,146 shekels depending on the dosage. The drug is not yet included in the state health basket or supplementary insurance programs of health funds, so patients will have to pay for it entirely out of pocket. Dr. Lior Neumann, a specialist in obesity and diabetes treatment, notes that the price remains the main obstacle. According to clinical studies, patients taking the maximum dosage of Foundayo for 72 weeks lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight. However, the pills are inferior to injectable drugs: Mounjaro provided weight loss of up to 22.5% over a similar period. Doctors believe that the pills could be a good solution for those who are not ready to take injections, as well as for maintaining results after losing weight on other drugs. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which caused about 10% of study participants to discontinue use.
