From Haturim to Malha: Jerusalem's new light rail line sets off
The new L3 light rail line in Jerusalem will launch tomorrow (Friday), connecting Haturim station to Malha along 7 km and 13 stations, joining the red line to form Israel's first light rail network.
The new L3 light rail line in Jerusalem will launch tomorrow (Friday), after receiving safety approvals from international control bodies and the Ministry of Transport. The line spans approximately 7 kilometers and includes 13 stations, 12 of which are new, connecting Haturim station on Jaffa Street to Malha station. It joins the existing L1 line (the red line) and creates Israel's first urban light rail network, allowing transfers between lines. The new line connects employment, government, education, culture, sports, and leisure hubs, including Binyanei Ha'uma, the Government Complex, the Hebrew University's Givat Ram campus, the high-tech complex in Hebrew University Park, the Botanical Garden, Teddy Stadium, the Arena Hall, and Malha Mall. It also serves the neighborhoods of Givat Mordechai, Pat, Gonenim, and Malha. The line connects to the red line at two transfer points and allows convenient access to Israel Railways and bus lines. Transportation Minister Miri Regev, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and Mayor Moshe Lion issued statements of support for the project. The project is managed under a PPP model through the concessionaire "Kfir" (a partnership of Shapir and CAF).
