American internet activist Laura Loomer, known for spreading conspiracy theories and a close ally of US President-elect Donald Trump, traveled to war-torn Ukraine. While on the ground and witnessing the scale of destruction caused by Russian aggression, she publicly admitted that she had been a victim of disinformation and revised her previous attitude toward the Ukrainian state. Loomer radically changed her once sharply critical stance and now actively urges fellow conservatives to be skeptical of Kremlin propaganda, accusing it of massively misleading the right-wing political segment in the US. During her visit to Kyiv, an interview with the blogger had to be urgently moved to an underground shelter due to an air raid and missile strike. Loomer confirmed that she spoke with Trump immediately after negotiations with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and expects a personal meeting upon returning to Washington. She firmly dismisses rumors of possible funding of the trip by Kyiv, emphasizing that she travels as an independent private individual. Reflecting on the reasons for her misconception, Loomer explained that due to bans on mainstream social networks, she moved to Telegram, where Russian media resources dominate. According to her, Moscow skillfully plays on human anger after the 2020 elections, and radicalization was fueled by the rhetoric of figures like Tucker Carlson. As part of her Ukrainian tour, Loomer met with Zelensky, senior officials, and the country's chief rabbi, and also visited the damaged Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Berezhnaya expressed hope that what she saw would help convey objective information to Washington. Experts note Loomer's special role in Trump's circle: she previously pushed for personnel changes in the National Security Council, and Trump himself posted a video of his conversation with Zelensky with the words "Very good!!!"
