From a school desk to an isolation cell.. The story of the child prisoner Ola Qteishat

At a time when thousands of female students returned to their desks with the start of the new school year, the seat of the child Ola Abdel Nasser Qteishat remained empty in one of the schools in the town of Tamun in the Tubas Governorate, after she was deprived of continuing her school year following her arrest by the Israeli occupation forces. Ola, 16 years old, a student in the eleventh grade in the commercial branch, found herself behind the bars of Damon Prison instead of her school desk. On May 24, 2026, Ola was preparing with her sister for the English exam scheduled for the next day, before her family home turned into a scene of a sudden raid at around 1:30 AM. Occupation forces stormed the house in large numbers, separated family members from each other, and prevented them from approaching Ola, before soldiers tied her hands, blindfolded her, and took her outside. Ola was transferred to Ariel interrogation center, then to Damon Prison, where she is now in isolation with the child prisoner Nada Iyad Bani Odeh (17 years old). The two girls live in a small room isolated from the rest of the prisoners, under harsh detention conditions, deprived of fresh air and direct communication. Testimonies indicate that Ola suffers from deteriorating health and psychological conditions, poor food quality, the spread of insects, weight loss, and being subjected to 24-hour camera surveillance. Before her arrest, Ola was active in her school with her activities and talents, and won first place nationwide in a mural painting competition that addressed the issue of Sabra and Shatila. She left a message to her classmates urging them to keep her seat empty until her return.
