Former officials approaching Mansour Abbas over possibility of Segalovitz joining Ra'am

Former senior security officials approached Ra'am chairman Mansour Abbas about former Yesh Atid MK Yoav Segalovitz joining the party, Channel 12's Muhammad Majadle told 103FM. Segalovitz officially announced he would leave Yesh Atid on Thursday, reportedly ahead of a possible move to Ra'am. Majadle said a group of former officials, including people who fought in the latest war, approached Abbas and expressed support for the move, with some possibly joining. He noted that sentiment in Arab society is positive, and even Hadash-Ta'al and Balad are not attacking the move. However, ideological and technical obstacles remain. Segalovitz wants a commitment on a national service framework for Arab citizens and recognition of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. Abbas faces an August 22 deadline to pass changes in Ra'am's primaries, including separation from the Shura Council and the Islamic Movement, and to secure two reserved slots for a Jewish and Christian candidate. Majadle said Abbas's determination stems from lessons from the previous government's collapse, and he wants to take Ra'am in a new direction with genuine Arab-Jewish partnership. Majadle believes Abbas is 'going for broke' in his last term.
