Former Obama Administration Official Entangled in Epstein Scandal

Kathryn Ruemmler, a former senior lawyer in the Obama administration and former chief legal counsel at Goldman Sachs, has become entangled in the Epstein scandal after her testimony before the House Oversight Committee was released this week. In her testimony, Ruemmler questioned the credibility of some claims made by Virginia Giuffre, one of the main accusers against Epstein. Giuffre's family reacted angrily, calling Ruemmler "untrustworthy" and accusing her of trying to minimize her role in the affair. During the investigation, email correspondence between Ruemmler and Epstein was revealed, in which Epstein asked, "Are we all ready for a day of joy?" and Ruemmler replied, "The best massage ever, but not your kind of massage." Ruemmler explained that it was a joke at the expense of Epstein's criminal past, admitting that in hindsight it was a joke in poor taste. In another correspondence, Epstein hinted at women from Eastern Europe, and Ruemmler responded sarcastically. Ruemmler resigned from Goldman Sachs in February following the exposure of the connection but remained as a consultant until a replacement was found. She emphasized that Epstein was not her personal client and that she knew him through handling a shared client.
