For the second time in a week: Israeli flag desecrated at grave of fallen IDF soldier

For the second time in a week, the Israeli flag was desecrated at the grave of Staff Sgt. Regev Amar, who fell on October 7 in the battle for Kibbutz Kissufim. Hikers in the Banias stream area, near Kibbutz Sde Nehemia, tore down a flag placed beside the headstone today (Tuesday). His mother Gilanit said: "My heart is broken today," adding that this is the second time this week that flags have been vandalized. Regev, 20 at his death, was born in the United States, was the middle child among his sisters, and before his enlistment went on a year of service leading hikes with the Society for the Protection of Nature. With the outbreak of the attack on October 7, he was called up with his company from a squad commanders course to the Gaza envelope, and on the way the fighters eliminated terrorist squads and saved a young woman who had been kidnapped. In the containment battle at Kibbutz Kissufim, he was seriously wounded, forbade his comrades from approaching him, and continued to lead the battle until he fell from a grenade blast. He was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant after his fall and was laid to rest in the cemetery at Sde Nehemia.
