For 50 Shekels: 74-Year-Old Charged with Transporting Two Illegal Residents from Gaza

Mahmoud Khatib, a 74-year-old resident of Kafr Kanna, has been charged with transporting two residents of the Gaza Strip who were staying in Israel without permits, for 50 shekels. Indictments were filed against him for transporting illegal residents and against the two passengers for illegal stay. The incident occurred last week in Kafr Kanna, after patrol officers noticed a Skoda vehicle and stopped it for inspection.

Mahmoud Khatib, a 74-year-old resident of Kafr Kanna, has been charged with transporting two residents of the Gaza Strip who were staying in Israel without permits, in exchange for 50 shekels. According to the indictment, last week, patrol officers from the Northern District noticed a Skoda vehicle driving in Kafr Kanna. One of the passengers, upon noticing the police car, sharply lowered his head in an attempt to hide. The officers stopped the vehicle for inspection and found inside two residents of the Gaza Strip, aged 37 and 54, who were staying in Israel without legal permits. During his interrogation, Khatib admitted that he had transported the two from their place of stay in Kafr Kanna to their workplace, for a payment of 50 shekels for the ride. At the end of the investigation, the Nazareth North Prosecution Unit of the police filed indictments against Khatib for transporting illegal residents, and against the two passengers for illegal stay in Israel.
