An indictment was filed today (Monday) with the Be'er Sheva District Court against a resident of Ar'ara in the Negev, in his 30s, for setting a car on fire amid a dispute between two families. According to the indictment, the incident began about a month ago in a mass brawl in Ar'ara, during which participants rammed vehicles and stones were thrown at forces, and officers fired. Subsequently, a report was received about a car being set on fire in the town. The suspect arrived at the car owner's home, rammed the gate several times until it fell, entered the yard with his vehicle, rammed the complainant's wife's car, smashed the windows with a hammer, lit a bag with a lighter, placed it burning on the driver's seat, and fled on foot. Heavy damage was caused to a Chevrolet car parked in the yard, estimated at about 170,000 NIS. The suspect was arrested and his detention was extended from time to time. The head of the intelligence unit at the Ar'ara station, Chief Inspector Hananel Shaklar, said that the investigators acted professionally and thoroughly to collect evidence, and that this is a severe violent incident amid a family feud. Meanwhile, police sources told Walla about a 50% decrease in arson incidents and 23% in shooting incidents compared to the corresponding period last year.
