Following Tel Aviv: Jerusalem also raises parking rates in city lots

The Jerusalem Municipality announced an increase in parking rates in municipal lots, effective tomorrow morning. In the city center, the price will rise from 18 to 22 shekels per hour (about 22%), and in other areas from 12 to 15 shekels (about 25%). The Talpiot rate remains 12 shekels, and Jerusalem residents with the 'Yerushalmi' benefit will continue to pay 11 shekels. The move aims to encourage public transportation and manage demand, and follows a similar price increase in Tel Aviv in August.

The Jerusalem Municipality announced today (Monday) an update to parking rates in municipal lots operated by 'Eden', the municipal economic development company. The rate for the general public in the city center will rise from 18 to 22 shekels per hour, an increase of about 22 percent, and in other areas of the city from 12 to 15 shekels per hour, an increase of about 25 percent. In the Talpiot area, the rate will remain unchanged at 12 shekels per hour, as a complementary parking solution for residents, visitors, and business owners in the area, given the extensive infrastructure and development works. For Jerusalem residents, the price remains unchanged, and the parking rate for holders of the 'Yerushalmi' benefit remains 11 shekels per hour in all municipal lots. The municipality notes that the move is intended to regulate and manage demand in city centers, encourage the use of public transportation with an emphasis on the light rail, and address the increase in ongoing operational costs, while maintaining the benefit for residents. It was also noted that this is part of the mayor's and the municipality's policy to put the resident at the center. Billing will continue to be per actual minutes, in accordance with the law. The move comes after in August, the Ahuzat HaHof lots and the Tel Aviv Municipality raised parking prices by about 20% for non-residents.
