Following Shin Bet chief's intervention: 'Yisrael Yehudit' to be registered as a party

Shin Bet chief David Zini changed the intelligence opinion that prevented the registration of the 'Yisrael Yehudit Shlema Ve'itana' party, after re-examining the classified material. Instead of determining that the party is a continuation of the banned 'Kach' movement, it was now determined that there is only an affiliation. The party registrar approved the registration, and the state asked the High Court to dismiss the proceedings.

The party, associated with Michael Ben-Ari and Baruch Marzel, had been trying to register for over two years but was rejected based on a Shin Bet opinion from the tenure of former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, which determined that the party is a continuation of the banned 'Kach' movement. Following a petition to the High Court, Zini requested to re-examine the classified materials. Now, in the updated opinion, it was determined that there is only an 'affiliation' between the party and the Kach movement, not continuity. Following the change in position, the party registrar approved the registration, and the state asked the High Court to dismiss the proceedings. The decision is seen as significant, as it allows the party to operate in the political arena after a prolonged legal battle.
