Following i24NEWS exposé: The message of the head of the task force against crime in Arab society to the Attorney General
The head of the task force against crime in Arab society, Roi Kahalon, responds to i24NEWS's exposé about a district judge's request to move north due to threats. Kahalon places the responsibility on the Attorney General and calls for declaring an enforcement state of emergency and a special legal regime to dismantle crime organizations, while warning of a tragedy in the style of the murder of judges in Italy.
The head of the task force against crime in Arab society, Roi Kahalon, responded to i24NEWS's exposé about the unusual request of district judge Nasser Abu Ta'a to move from his residence in the south of the country to the north and preside there, against the backdrop of threats from criminal elements in Arab society. Kahalon placed the responsibility on the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, and called on her to remove her opposition to changing the paradigm, declare an enforcement state of emergency, and formulate a special legal regime that would provide effective tools for dismantling crime organizations. "The paradigm is changed before the tragedy occurs, not after it," he wrote. Kahalon compared the situation to Italy, where the mafia murdered judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992, leading to a significant paradigm shift in the fight against the mafia. According to him, crime organizations in Israel are armed, possess economic power, and have the ability to use violence, and the existing legal regime is not adapted to the magnitude of the threat. The article notes that some of the suspects and defendants judged by Abu Ta'a are demanding compensation from his family for the punishment and "damage" caused to them by his rulings.
