Last Tuesday, in addition to Neger, dozens of underworld figures were arrested at their homes on suspicion of being part of a criminal network involved in protection and extortion. The arrests were part of a massive police raid in several cities in southern Israel in the fight against protection money offenses. Neger is considered one of the most prominent figures in the southern crime world. In the past, he was the right-hand man of crime boss Benny Shlomo, who was murdered, and in recent years he became the head of the most powerful organization in the Ashdod area. About a year ago, Neger was arrested on suspicion of threatening a restaurant owner. Just two months ago, he survived an assassination attempt when an explosive device was planted in his car, and at the last moment the police prevented its activation. Earlier this month, an explosive device was neutralized at his home in Ashdod.
