First Report: Indictment to Be Filed in Shfaram Shooting; Nationalist Motive Ruled Out

The Haifa District Attorney's Office is expected to file an indictment this week against Abad Azam for the attempted murder of the sheikh at the mosque in Shfaram. An indictment will also be filed against his friend for involvement in the incident. The investigation, conducted by the police and the Shin Bet, determined that the motive was not nationalist but criminal, stemming from a conflict between the two. Initially, a terrorist attack was suspected, and large forces were deployed. The defendant's attorneys stated that the prosecution tried to lead him to confess to a security-related incident, which was not the case.

About a month after the shooting at the mosque in Shfaram, the Haifa District Attorney's Office is expected to file an indictment this week against Abad Azam, a resident of the city, for the attempted murder of the sheikh at the mosque. An indictment will also be filed against his friend for involvement in the incident, after he allegedly hid the gun used in the shooting. The two, aged 32 and 47, have had their detention extended from time to time, and with the conclusion of the investigation, a prosecutor's statement was filed. The investigation, conducted by the Northern District of the police and the Shin Bet, determined that the motive for the incident was not nationalist but criminal, stemming from a conflict between the two. At the beginning of the investigation, a terrorist attack was suspected, and accordingly, large forces of police, Border Police, Shin Bet, and Yamam were deployed, launching a widespread manhunt in the Krayot and Galilee area. During the manhunt, the police and Shin Bet asked the public to remain vigilant and call 100 if they encountered the suspect. The defendant's attorneys, lawyers Tami Ulman and Shadi Srour, responded that the prosecution tried to lead the defendant to confess to a security-related incident, which was not the case, and that it was proven he had no security background.
