Haim Roter, former chairman of the 'Hashomrim' organization, was released to house arrest in the Jerusalem area, just over a year after his arrest at Ben Gurion Airport on suspicion of rape and indecent acts. The affair began in the summer of 2025, upon his landing from Poland, on suspicion of a series of abuses over many years. Last month, the Supreme Court rejected the prosecution's appeal and ruled that he would not be released, but now he is being released. An indictment was filed against Roter in February 2026 for serious sex offenses, including rape, sodomy, and indecent acts against minors and adults, while exploiting his position as chairman of the association in Bnei Brak for 15 years. Dozens of complaints have accumulated, including one in the US in cooperation with the FBI, and three of his associates were arrested. Roter denies the allegations and claims the case was 'stitched up' and that the complainants were brought by force or for money. A police representative described the case as a 'horrific series of abuses'.
