Fear of sperm donation error at Assuta: Patient refuses additional genetic testing

A patient at Assuta Ramat HaHayal, mother of a 3-year-old son and a newborn, is refusing additional genetic testing that could shed light on a suspected genetic mismatch between the sperm donor she chose and her children. The concern first arose about a month ago, when the Ministry of Health reported results of a private genetic test the patient had conducted at a lab abroad, raising doubts about the donor's identity. The patient chose to conceive through sperm donation from a specific man, and after giving birth, noticed the children did not look alike and conducted a test. Assuta is asking not to rely solely on document checks and recommended genetic testing of the sperm vials themselves, but the patient has not consented to its performance. Prof. Itai Gat, director of the sperm bank at Assuta, stated that the records from the medical file were found to be in order, but further tests are needed to determine if an error occurred.
