Facing the sworn enemy: Donald Trump managed to surprise the US again

US President Donald Trump was interviewed by Michael Cohen, his former lawyer who became an adversary, in an interview partially aired tonight. Trump ignored Cohen's attempts to evoke nostalgia and focused on the present, while complimenting Cohen on his change of direction. The interview sounded like a routine appearance by the president.

US President Donald Trump was interviewed by Michael Cohen, who previously served as his lawyer but had a sharp falling out with him. Part of the interview aired tonight (between Thursday and Friday), and its full version will air on Sunday. At the start of the interview, Cohen tried to evoke nostalgia and said: "You and I have been through quite a difficult journey together." Trump, for his part, did not indicate whether he remembered the incident and chose to completely ignore their shared past. Trump chose to focus on the present and compliment Cohen on his change of direction, saying: "They weaponized you... I respect the fact that you took back everything you said. That's a very big thing you did." Although Cohen never "took back everything," he accepted the remarks. From there, the interview sounded more like another routine appearance by the president than a historic reunion. Despite Cohen's repeated attempts to bring up memories, Trump repeated his usual messages about the strong economy, the Democrats, and the unfair media. "The polls are corrupt," Trump stated in response, adding harsh criticism of New York Times journalists as well.
