Even Without Finishing the Degree: New Relief for Reserve Soldiers

The Knesset Constitution Committee approved a temporary order easing requirements for reserve soldiers in their final year of law studies. The relief allows them to start an internship even if they have not yet completed up to four courses and four exams required for a bachelor's degree. The qualifying period for significant reserve service has been extended to one year, until August 31, 2026, and the required number of reserve days has been reduced from 90 to 59. The relief applies to those expected to begin their internship between September 1 and December 31, 2026. Committee Chairman MK Simcha Rothman explained that reserve service during exam periods significantly harms studies. A representative of the Israel Bar Association, Attorney Dana Blum, noted that the relief is broader but limited to the population of significant reserve soldiers.
