Even during the election recess: Tens of millions more shekels expected to go to Haredi institutions

Despite the Knesset going into election recess, the Finance Committee will advance budget transfers totaling hundreds of millions of shekels tomorrow. Among the requests: 16.4 million shekels for exempt institutions for summer school programs, 65.4 million shekels for settlement education for state-religious education, 76.6 million shekels for encouraging employment of designated populations, mainly in the Haredi sector, 62.5 million shekels for budgeting national service in the Haredi sector, 13.5 million shekels for school construction, mainly in the Haredi sector, and 67.5 million shekels for hilltop youth. From the Ministry of Culture and Sports, requests were submitted for about 90.2 million shekels in coalition funds, including 3.8 million shekels for Torah research institutes, 26.6 million shekels for public institutions in the field of culture, 34.9 million shekels for the urban culture basket, 5 million shekels for the ANU Museum, and 9 million shekels for the Zalman Shazar Center. The Ministry of Education requests 26.1 million shekels for a dropout prevention program in yeshivas, 16.1 million shekels for increasing daycare subsidies to 100% in recognized and exempt institutions, 12.5 million shekels for supporting Jewish culture, 15.2 million shekels for expanding support for Torah institutions operating in the Tekuma region, about 69 million shekels for the "Independent Education" and "Bnei Yosef - Ma'ayan Hachinuch Hatorani" networks, and 54 million shekels for kindergarten teachers in recognized but unofficial education. MK Naor Shiri criticized the transfers, saying: "Even after the worst Knesset term in the history of the Jewish people, the coalition continues to loot the public coffers. This is the face of all of us. What did the people of Israel do to deserve such a government?"
