Esther Rakow-Melt, widow of the late Binyahu Melt who was murdered on Friday in a shooting attack in Samaria near Havat Gilad, decided to sit shiva at the site where her husband fell. In an interview with Ynet, she describes Binyahu as a man of connections and action, a farmer at heart, and a field man who knew every stone. The attack occurred after a group of hikers was attacked; Melt and Major Yuval Ezra were killed by fire from a terrorist who seized a weapon. Esther claims failures: the force did not know the terrain, civilians without medical training, and a delay in evacuation. She calls for changing the rules of engagement, noting that the security coordinator and Binyahu feared shooting due to lack of backing. She also recounts an injustice Binyahu experienced in an officers' course, from which he was expelled two days before its completion on the grounds of failing a fitness test, while ten other cadets who did not pass it completed the course. Esther intends to act to rectify the injustice.
