Kibbutz Ma'abarot is closing the veteran pharmaceutical company Trima, founded 85 years ago by Israel's first president, Chaim Weizmann. Last night, employees were notified of the closure of manufacturing operations after a long period of examining alternatives and failed attempts to sell the company. The decision was made, according to the kibbutz, after attempts to sell Trima as a whole did not succeed. The company's prominent product is the morning-after pill, Postinor, which dominates the contraceptive market. Trima's imported products, including Postinor, will be transferred to Altman, a natural health products company also fully owned by Ma'abarot. As reported by Calcalist, attempts were made to sell Trima, which lost 10-20 million shekels per year, to Rafa of the Fimi fund and to Ketzat of the Fortissimo fund, but both companies withdrew from the deal. Trima employs about 130 workers, most of them outside the kibbutz. The company was sold to Ma'abarot in 1962.
