France's ambassador to the Central African Republic, Bruno Fouché, is facing disciplinary proceedings initiated by the French Foreign Ministry following an unusual sex scandal reported by the satirical weekly Le Canard Enchaîné. According to the report, Fouché invited about 30 young women, aged 20 to 30, to his residences in Bangui between January 2024 and March 2026, some of whom allegedly spent the night there. A steady stream of visitors raised suspicions among the GIGN unit guarding the diplomatic compound. A GIGN report led to the dispatch of an inspection mission in April, and after interviews with about 40 witnesses, the Inspector General recommended Fouché's dismissal. Fouché admitted to having sexual relations with two of the women but claimed that his meetings with students were intended to help them with their studies. The affair is particularly sensitive due to Russia's extensive presence in the country, and disciplinary proceedings are ongoing.
