Eisenkot demands police launch probe into politically motivated assault of Yashar! party activist

Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yashar party, called on Police Commissioner Danny Levi to investigate the assault of Ilan Mans, a 76-year-old party activist who heads the Mevaseret Zion branch. Mans was attacked last week near the Hemed interchange on Highway 1 after attempting to remove a banner calling for the release of Yigal Amir, who murdered Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995. Mans was hospitalized with brain bleeding and underwent neurological surgery. Eisenkot demanded a comprehensive investigation, warning that such violence 84 days before election day cannot be tolerated.

Footage showed several people surrounding and assaulting Mans after he fell. He was taken to Hadassah-University Medical Center with brain bleeding and required neurological surgery, remaining hospitalized. In a letter to Levi on Monday, Eisenkot wrote that such violence, 84 days before election day, could be a grave indication of what awaits and cannot be tolerated. He demanded a comprehensive, thorough, and rapid investigation, and called for arrests. The incident follows a campaign for Amir's release, with a similar banner displayed at the Ein Hemed interchange in late June.
