Drunkenness of Russians – scandal in Egypt over NPP construction
Egyptian authorities have accused Rosatom of dangerous violations during the construction of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant. The customer identified serious defects in the foundations of three power units and cases of report falsification. The Russian side rejected the accusations. The scandal could affect projects in Hungary, Turkey, and China.
Egyptian authorities sent an official letter to the management of the Russian state corporation Rosatom with complaints about numerous violations during the construction of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant. This is reported by Politico, whose journalists reviewed an internal document. The customer accuses Russian builders of gross negligence and disregard for nuclear safety rules. The reports record serious engineering defects in various parts of the station. The inspection revealed dangerous flaws in the concrete foundations of three power units, which took a whole year to fix. The Russian side, according to the publication, tried to hide the real state of affairs, claiming that the facilities were half ready, while the work was only at the stage of underground construction. Also noted are low standards of corporate culture: alcohol consumption, forging passes, illegal video recording, and cases of occupational injuries. Representatives of Rosatom categorically rejected all accusations. The scandal creates risks for similar nuclear projects in Hungary, Turkey, and China.
