A joint operation by the IDF, Border Police, and the Green Patrol, involving about 70 officers, soldiers, fighters, and inspectors, aimed to destroy illegal cannabis greenhouses in an Air Force firing zone near Mitzpe Ramon. The area, characterized by wadis, hills, and rocks, requires the use of powerful off-road vehicles. During the operation, 50 to 60 greenhouses were destroyed, and approximately 25,200 seedlings of various sizes were uprooted. Border Police Deputy Commander Shifra Buchris emphasized that the money from the drugs goes to terrorist organizations and that every plant harvested is one less drug reaching youth. The inspectors noted that the growers, residents of the diaspora settlements, know the area well and manage to set up new greenhouses after each destruction. The operation is part of an ongoing effort to increase governance, with about 300 greenhouses destroyed in recent weeks. Despite the extensive destruction, new greenhouses keep appearing, and additional operations are planned.
