In the video, the vendor, identified as Yuri (52), is seen desperately trying to evade the unmanned vehicle that tracked him in the frontline city. The incident, joining a series of similar cases, is seen as an example of what is called in Ukraine a "human safari" – the deliberate hunting of innocent civilians by Russian forces. According to a report by correspondent Antonia Langford, in the footage taken from the drone's own camera (FPV), the device is seen making several dives toward Yuri before crashing and exploding near his van. Yuri, who suffered a concussion, shrapnel wounds, and burns, said this was the second time he had been targeted. "At first I didn't see it at all; it came from behind the market," Yuri recalled the moments of terror. "I tried to show the drone my vegetables to prove I'm just a seller, but it just started flying straight at me." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky quickly condemned the attack, calling it an "act of evil." He said, "The world must see this, see every piece of evidence that Russia has lost its sanity and that its soldiers derive pleasure from murder and abuse of civilians." In Kyiv, they accuse Russian forces of using civilians as "training targets." Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson regional military administration, noted that Moscow has deployed its best drone units in the area. According to the city's governor, at least 130 residents of Kherson, including three children, were killed by this method during 2025, and 1,195 more were wounded. Local police emphasized that Yuri had no signs of being a fighter: "Nevertheless, for the Russian army, he is a living target." Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha added that "the sadistic drone operators know full well that they are hitting civilians," and called on the international community to condemn these barbaric war crimes, many of which are not even exposed to the public. FPV drones, often carrying up to 5 kg of explosives and reaching a range of about 19 kilometers, have become a central weapon in the campaign. Kherson, which was occupied by Russia at the start of the war and liberated in November 2022, still suffers daily attacks, while 76% of the region's territory remains under Kremlin control.
