Disaster at Peru's Famous Tourist Site: 13 Killed in Light Aircraft Crash

A light tourist aircraft, a Cessna Caravan C-208, crashed last night (Saturday) in Peru over the Nazca Lines site, killing all 13 people on board. Among the dead: seven tourists from Italy, two from Germany, and two from Spain. The plane, operated by Aerodiana, took off from Pisco airport and crashed near Pueblo Viejo. The local police chief confirmed there are no survivors and that four bodies have been recovered so far.

The plane, operated by the local Peruvian airline Aerodiana, took off from the airport in the city of Pisco and crashed around 13:00 (local time) in the Pueblo Viejo area. The local police chief, Commander Jorge Andrade, confirmed that due to the severity of the accident there are no survivors, and that four bodies have been recovered so far. The provincial municipality of Nazca expressed deep sorrow and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims. Aerodiana said it would review its flight schedule in accordance with authorities' instructions. This is not the first time a tourist plane has crashed over the site: in 2022, another light aircraft crashed and all seven passengers were killed, and in 2010, six people died in a similar incident. The Nazca Lines, known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attract many tourists wishing to view the ancient animal drawings from the air.
