Detention Extended for Suspect in Threats Against Channel 12: 'Next Time the Brick Will Be Aimed at Your Head'

The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court extended the detention of Avraham Hadi, suspected of throwing bricks at the entrance door of Channel 12's offices and leaving a threatening letter. The judge ruled there is a risk of obstructing the investigation and that the suspect poses a danger. According to the suspicion, on the night between Monday and Tuesday, Hadi arrived at Channel 12's offices in Tel Aviv, threw bricks at the entrance door, smashed the glass, and fled. Near the entrance, a threatening letter was found stating: "Until you apologize for the Sde Teiman affair, I won't stop. Next time the brick will be aimed at one of your heads. Even an apology without heartfelt intent is fine. Treat the letter with full seriousness. Too bad, because in the end someone will die." The letter also included names of public figures, former and current officials, and additional media outlets, along with the statement: "God's judgment will be exacted on all of you." The investigation was conducted by the Central Unit of the Tel Aviv District, the Crime Fighting Unit in the Ayalon area, and the Shin Bet. As part of the covert investigation, Hadi was arrested and a search was conducted at his home. Police are checking if the suspect is connected to other incidents of property damage and threats against media outlets and public figures, including smashing windows at Channel 12 and Haaretz offices and spraying a threatening graffiti at Channel 13 offices. A police representative said in the hearing that many investigative actions remain, some of which could be disrupted if the suspect is released. The judge noted that the danger attributed to Hadi is reinforced by his October 2024 conviction for assault, assault causing actual bodily harm, and damaging property. Hadi denied the suspicions and claimed he suffers from a severe disability in his left hand due to implanted plates. According to him, he can only use the hand in a limited way and can "only smoke a cigarette with it." His attorney, Adv. Eran Amrani, requested his release to house arrest at his parents' home. He said, "Even if the police's claims are accepted in full, the acts should be seen as an expression of protest, not an attempt to harm people." The attorney added that the acts attributed to his client were carried out at night to avoid meeting people and causing physical harm. He further argued that the necessary evidence and findings have already been seized, so there is no justification for continuing his detention.
