Deer and badgers in a closed room: the unusual raid of the Border Police near Tulkarm

Border Police fighters and Nature and Parks Authority inspectors raided a compound in the village of Shweika near the city of Tulkarm, as part of an investigation conducted by the Central District Border Police unit concerning the illegal possession of protected wildlife. On site, two deer and two badgers were found held illegally. The inspectors performed professional procedures to sedate and capture the animals, and they were transferred for further care by the Nature and Parks Authority. During the operation, a suspect, a resident of Tulkarm in his 60s, was arrested and taken for questioning. Additionally, other animals were found at the suspect's home: an albino wallaby, two blue-tongued skinks, a common hedgehog, as well as pets and farm animals kept in harsh conditions, including a sheep, hamsters, and rabbits. The inspectors returned the stolen wildlife to the zoo and released the hedgehog back into the wild. The suspect is being investigated on suspicion of offenses including harming wildlife, illegal possession, burglary, theft, and illegal hunting.
