A brawl between young people in the center of the village of Jisr az-Zarqa escalated yesterday afternoon (Sunday) into a chase with gunfire by a gunman after a high school student on the main street of the village, a few hundred meters from the police station. The 17-year-old student, pursued by the gunman, fled into the yard of a school he does not attend, where students were during recess, and found shelter there. The shooting itself took place outside the school grounds. The area also contains public institutions, a health fund, a children's clinic, and businesses. Eyewitnesses said the shooter fired about ten bullets while students were in the yard. He did not enter the school grounds, but the shooting caused great panic among students and staff. Parents who heard about the incident in real time called children and teachers in panic. Police arrived at the school, questioned the student who found refuge there, and began searches. Later, they reported arresting three young suspects, including one minor. The background to the brawl is still under investigation. The council head, Sheikh Murad Amash, said this was 'crossing all boundaries' and called on the police to investigate and catch the shooter.
