Professor Patricia Hunt of Washington State University, through months of tests, found embryo death, severe birth defects, and reduced sperm quality in mice. However, Israeli toxicologist Professor Ofir Lavon from Carmel Hospital in Haifa cautions against generalizing hundreds of different chemicals: major concerns relate to specialized disinfectants, not basic household cleaners. Lab dosages in animal tests often far exceed real-world household exposure levels. Proven side effects of QACs include acute skin and mucous membrane irritation from direct contact with concentrated products, as well as respiratory irritation from aerosols. This poses particular danger to people with asthma and young children. Experts recommend using warm water and soap for routine cleaning, reserving powerful disinfectants for emergencies only.
