Claimed to 'Turn Off the Gas' at a Bakery and Hid a Business That Brought in Hundreds of Thousands

The Tax Authority conducted a widespread enforcement operation in Rahat, during which 26 vehicles and 7 trucks were seized for debts totaling about 12 million shekels. Inspections of businesses found unreported income of about 1 million shekels and violations of the Cash Law amounting to 380,000 shekels. At a bakery, a man posing as a gas technician was caught running a business without books, and a grocery store owner hid a phone business and claimed the funds came from abroad.

The Tax Authority conducted a widespread enforcement operation today (Sunday) in the city of Rahat, as part of the national fight against crime in Arab society. The operation, led by the Southern District of the Israel Police, resulted in the seizure of dozens of vehicles and trucks belonging to debtors worth millions of shekels, and bookkeeping inspections were carried out at many businesses. The Beer Sheva Execution Office seized 26 vehicles and 7 trucks with a cumulative debt of about 12 million shekels. The National Bookkeeping Unit entered 20 targets in Rahat and Tarabin, where unreported income totaling about 1 million shekels was found, as well as violations of the Cash Law amounting to 380,000 shekels. In one case, a bakery was found to have unreported income from open checks totaling about 345,000 shekels, and the business owner claimed he issues invoices once a month. Additionally, a man arrived at the bakery claiming he came to turn off the gas, but in reality he was running a business inside the bakery without bookkeeping. In another case, a grocery store was found to have unreported income via the Bit app totaling 4,000 shekels, and the owner hid an illegal phone-selling business. Inspectors found rolled cash notes totaling 10,000 shekels in his office, and the owner claimed these were funds he received abroad. The operation was led by the Tax Authority's dedicated project coordinator for fighting crime in the Arab sector, with the participation of various units.
