Civil Defense retrieves bodies of 9 martyrs

Civil defense teams in Gaza managed to retrieve the remains and bodies of 9 martyrs from under the rubble of the Salmi family home in the Zeitoun neighborhood, which was destroyed by the Israeli army in November 2023. Search operations are still ongoing for the remaining body out of 10 missing persons under the rubble.

Civil defense teams in the Gaza Strip, on Monday, August 24, 2026, managed to retrieve the remains and bodies of 9 martyrs from under the rubble of the Salmi family home in the Zeitoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City. The home, which was destroyed by the Israeli army on November 20, 2023, contained 10 missing persons under its rubble. The teams managed to retrieve the bodies of 9 of them, while search operations are still ongoing for the remaining body. It is noted that the home contained 17 martyrs at the time of the strike, with the bodies of 7 of them retrieved in previous operations. Civil defense teams face significant difficulties in retrieval operations due to the size of the rubble and the lack of heavy machinery and equipment.
