Caught in the Act: What Driving Instructors Did During Lessons

The Israel Police concluded a nationwide enforcement operation against traffic offenses, during which 5,924 citations were issued, including 1,072 for mobile phone use. Driving instructors were also documented using phones during lessons. 14 drivers were caught driving while disqualified, 81 vehicles were immobilized, and 11 were arrested. The operation is part of the national program 'Committed to Life'.

The Israel Police concluded yesterday (Thursday) a broad nationwide enforcement operation against life-threatening traffic offenses, during which 5,924 citations were issued to drivers across the country. Hundreds of police officers and volunteers participated in the operation, and thousands of drivers were checked. Among other things, 1,072 citations were issued for mobile phone use and distraction, 211 for excessive speed, 116 for running red lights, 165 for failing to yield to pedestrians, and 332 for various other offenses. In addition, 14 drivers were caught driving while their license was suspended, 17 unlicensed drivers were caught behind the wheel, 42 driving licenses were revoked, 81 vehicles were immobilized, and 11 people were arrested. Additionally, 154 citations were issued to riders of two-wheeled vehicles. The police noted that during the activity, driving instructors were also documented committing offenses of mobile phone use and distraction during driving lessons, and that this is a doubly serious offense. Alongside enforcement in the field, 1,599 citations for speeding and red-light crossing were processed yesterday through digital enforcement systems, and 103 additional offenses were recorded by cameras of the 'Guardians of the Way' unit. During the operation, several drivers were also arrested on suspicion of serious offenses, including a driver driving under the influence of drugs, a driver who attacked a policewoman, and a motorcyclist with a substance suspected to be cocaine. The operation is part of the fight against road fatalities within the national program 'Committed to Life'.
