Captured in Gaza and brought to Israel: Detention extended for terrorist who took part in October 7 massacre
The Ashkelon Magistrate's Court extended by 45 days the detention of Hassan Hwajri, a terrorist from Hamas's military wing who took part in the October 7 massacre. Hwajri was captured in Gaza about a year and a half after the start of the war and brought to Israel. He is suspected of murder, kidnapping, sexual offenses, arson, and additional terror offenses.
The Ashkelon Magistrate's Court extended by 45 days the detention of Hassan Hwajri, a terrorist from Hamas's military wing who took part in the October 7, 2023 massacre. Hwajri was captured in Gaza about a year and a half after the start of the ground maneuver and brought to Israel for investigation and legal proceedings. He is suspected of a range of serious offenses: murder with special cruelty, including of helpless individuals, murder as part of a terror organization, armed infiltration, mass terror act, sexual offenses, kidnapping for murder or extortion, arson with intent to harm people, incitement to armed terror, and membership in a terror organization. Judge Yamini ruled that there is reasonable basis for suspicion and grounds for detention, and that the extension stems from the risk the terrorist poses to the state and the possibility he might try to disrupt the investigation and trial. The decision includes an instruction to the detention authority to allow attorney visits in accordance with IPS policy.
